NRA Women's Only Basic Handgun Training

NRA Women's Only  Handgun Safety Class with live-fire. This is a  one day session held at Wiscasset Rod and Gun Club. This is a supportive women's only class.  Students may bring their preferred handgun, hearing protection and safety glasses to class and to the range. All ammunition must stay in car until range time!  Students will practice skills in the classroom before taking a written test and going to the outdoor range.   Your instructor is Master Maine Guide and NRA Instructor, Alice

 During class you will practice: being safe with a handgun, how to hold a handgun, how to load and unload a handgun safely, how to clean a handgun, shooting fundamentals, malfunctions common when live-firing and what to do, Other topics covered include: differences between handguns and their parts, how to choose the right handgun for you, storage, ammunition storage, and firearm safety!  Each participant will receive a NRA Basic Pistol Handling textbook to use during class and to take home.  Bring your lunch, snacks, beverages, notebook and pen/pencil.

Completion of this course for certification requires passing a 50 question written examination, active participation in class, and shooting 20 rounds within 4 circles at 10'. If you complete the course, you may use your certificate in applying for a state of Maine Concealed Carry Permit.  

Everyone is encouraged to bring their favorite handgun, owner's manual, ear protection, and eye protection to class. All ammunition (50 rounds) must stay in the car! No live ammunition is allowed during the classroom session. If you wish to fire but do not have a handgun, one will be provided by the instructor with a $25 ammunition fee.

 Covid-19  precautions will be followed - masks, social distancing, and hand sanitizing to protect all of us in class and at the range.  The range is an outdoor range. Please bring clothing appropriate which needs to include closed toed shoes, hat, and long sleeves for your safety. Hearing protection and glasses will be provided if you do not have them.
