Future Registered Maine Guides for Sea Kayak and Tide-Water Fishing specialties need to know how to paddle a sea kayak and a SUP correctly. They also need to know how to teach those skills to clients and how to rescue an unexpected swimmer or a capsized sea kayak.
Join a workshop to learn and practice these skills. Participants must wear either a wetsuit or drysuit and a PFD at all times. This is an outdoor workshop that is dependent on open calm water. Location will be decided the week prior to the event, but will be in the greater Brunswick, ME area. You will be cooking a hot lunch for yourself and providing personal snacks because of Covid-19.
Skills to be covered include how to transport sea kayaks and SUP's, launching and recovery, strokes, paddling safely as a group and group management, using a chart and compass on the water, towing and rescues and more. This is a participatory workshop where you will have at least one teaching assignment.
You are expected to provide your own 14' or longer closed deck sea kayak with two bulkheads, paddle, spare paddle, spray skirt, pfd, bilge pump, tow belt, deck compass, and appropriate clothing for the event. If you don't have all the necessities, you may be able to rent them. SUP's, paddles, and leashes will be provided as part of the training.
