It's important to take a break after paddling for a bit especially if this is the first time you are trying to SUP or Stand Up Paddleboard.
Sunny or cloudy, the weather doesn't matter when you are having fun! Paddling at the speed of the slowest SUP allows the rest of us to look for bald eagles, cormorants, terns, different sea gulls, osprey, great blue herons, snowy egrets and possibly a seal. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to try this fun sport!
After getting your life jacket, you'll learn how to paddle on shore and how to carry your board to the water and get on it. We'll practice strokes in a cove near the launch. Once you get your sea legs, we'll start off toward our snack destination. Please bring your favorite and a small water bottle. We will be wearing face coverings as required especially whenever we are on land.
The 2.5 hour tour will go quickly. Wear quick drying clothing (no cotton) just in case you go swimming, closed toe water shoes that will get wet, sunscreen, and hats. Bring a change of clothing and towels to be kept in the car for afterwards. Your guide will be taking some candid photos of your trip, but if you want to take your own, bring the camera in a waterproof bag. We wear water shoes to protect your feet from barnacles and Maine's Androscoggin River shores.
. If there are unsafe conditions for SUP'ng, then your guide will work with you to reschedule you to another tour. Your safety is most important.
Alice reminds you that while anyone can do this tour, not everyone will want to stand-up for the whole tour. That is OK. Some people stand for just a little while and then kneel or sit while paddling. In order to have the most fun using the stand-up paddle boards for this tour, children should be at least 8 and the heaviest weighted person should be less than 225 lbs.
After this tour, we'll stop and pick up sandwiches before proceeding by car to Woolwich to visit three lighthouses all on the Kennebec River. Our last one will require a short hike.
