Sea Kayak, Oyster Tasting & Forest Bathing

Combine all the best activities in one day! Sea Kayak to an Oyster Farm, Paddle to an island to Taste the Oysters, then Forest Bathe on that Island.

This unique five hour tour on Mere Point  and Middle Bay heads along Birch Island  to nearby Upper Goose Island and visit Love Point Oysters, usually.  Our meditative paddles will include looking for great blue herons, osprey, bald eagles, cormorants, and fish.

Sunrise through treesAfter visiting the farm and learning about how beneficial oysters farms are to the health of the bay, you'll paddle to a nearby island to sample the live oysters. We'll be staying in that ADSCN3450_Slurping_a_raw_oyster.jpgcove while participating in different invitations to mindfulness and nature. We'll break for the lunch you brought, and then we'll have another invitation before an island tea ceremony. Paddling back to start will be bring lots of thoughts and a final closure at the Mere Point Boat Launch after carrying up our gear and kayaks.

We will be stopping at Love Point Oyster Company or at Mere Point Oysters  to learn about oyster farming in Maine. Your Master Maine Guide Alice will be picking up oysters right from the bay for you to sample later.

You will paddle in a tandem/double sea kayak or in a solo boat based on Alice's weather choice. Wear clothing for the day, odorless sunscreen, and bring a synthetic fleece or windbreaker in case it is a bit chilly when we start or while we are on the island. Bring your own lunch, snacks, water,  and a small cushion to sit-upon all in a very small backpack.  A journal with pencils is optional.

Oyster on half shell Our route will be determined by the weather, tide and the speed of the slowest sea kayak at the moment. We will be paddling about 2 miles each way. This trip is appropriate for beginners.

Once we are settled on the beach after our oyster tasting we will begin our Mindful Outdoor Experience or Forest Bathing. We will notice our greater-than-human world through a series of invitations. This is a special time for all of us, and you might wish to journal as part of the invitations. We'll stop to have the lunch that you brought followed by another invitation before our Island Tea Ceremony. Paddling back afterwards, we'll stay as a tight group. After landing at the Mere Point Boat Launch, we'll carry the boats and gear up to the trailer and then have a closing council session before departing.

You may need to wear a face mask or covering depending on Covid-19 regularions and if you are not fully vacinated. You will bring your own snacks, lunch, water, odorless sunscreen, and wear shoes that cover and attach to your feet that can get wet. It is optional to bring a journal and pencils and a small cushion to sit-upon.

If the timing of this trip doesn't match your schedule, email Alice at Alice's Awesome Adventures to create a private tour just for you.
