COVID-19 Protocols

Alice's Awesome Adventures adheres to all COVID-19 protocols.

COVID-19 Protocols

Alice's Awesome Adventures has been COVID-19 Phase 1 CERTIFIED and may be open for business for boating trips (SUP, sea kayak, and canoe). That means that trips during Phase 1 (all of May 2020 and possibly beyond) must be for groups of 5! Any participants must live in Maine or have completed a 14 day quarantine.

All participants and Master Maine Guide Alice, must wear masks during any land portions of the trips (and possibly during other times) when social distancing is not easily maintained. When using a canoe or tandem sea kayak, both paddlers must be from the same family. Participants according to COVID-19 Phase 1 rules must provide their own water in water bottles, snacks, sunscreen, bug repellent, and masks. Sadly, Master Maine Guide Alice's famous hot muffins, brownies and tea will not be able to be offered during Phase 1.

All equipment (PFD's, paddles, boats, seats, bilge pumps and the like) will be sanitized according to the current Maine CDC and boating standards before and after use. Hand sanitizer will be available as needed. The rules for sanitization, distancing, wearing of face masks, size of groups, who can go on a trip, and snacks change rapidly, so always reconfirm your trip.

Alice's Awesome Adventures wants you to stay safe, healthy, and strong. We offer gift certificates by email for any trip in the future. Currently trips are on hold following Gov. Mills orders for anyone not living in Maine or has not completed a 14 day quarantine in Maine during Covid-19 Phase 1 business reopening.

Registered Maine Guide training and other training is happening through the use of video conferencing and online courses. You can train right now to become a Registered Maine Guide! Contact Alice by email. Merrymeeting Adult Education is offering a Registered Maine Guide course starting May 4th for 8 weeks that will meet twice a week by video conferencing. Cost? $500. To register go to www.merrymeeting.org

Covid-19 is on all of our minds at this time. Being outdoors allowing Mother Nature to give us fresh air, healing phytoncides from trees and plants, sunshine building our Vitamin D stores, and giving us space for relaxing are critical gifts for our wellness. On small group tours, it is easy to maintain social distances.

Following best practices for this industry, Alice's Awesome Adventures has always cleaned paddles, kayaks, canoes, pfd's, and all other common gear in the past, and continues to follow the current CDC guidelines.  If you wish to cancel or change a reservation, please email and it will be changed at no cost to you. If you wish a refund, that too will be granted with advance notice. Just being a "no-show" will not give you a refund.

Your Master Maine Guide, Alice

I care about my customers and make each trip, tour, or training unique for the customers that is with me each time. I want to share my enthusiam for my home state and local area with anyone with a bit of curiousity about the history, wildlife and fauna, and unique land and shore features. The glaciers helped to create incredible places to hike, bike, paddle, swim, search for sea glass or sand dollars, and explore. Why participate in a big group trip, when you can choose to go on a personalized tour, have personalized and customized Registered Maine Guide training or take a customized workshop?

Why go out on your own or with a guide? Go with a guide and discover the best places in the area, the hidden gems, and soak up the guides local knowledge not only about your trip but the area around so that the rest of your time exploring Maine is delightful. I am a local, raised in Brunswick, and suggest local places that will keep your happiness levels up.

The State of Maine has rigorous testing and licensing requirements for its Maine Guides. I served on the Guides Board of Examiners, and hold a Master Maine Guide license for Sea Kayaking, Recreation, Fishing and Hunting. I am a member of the Maine Association of Sea Kayaking Guides & Instructors, a former President and Secretary. I belong to Maine Island Trail Association, and am a Wilderness First Aider.

I am a naturalist and a former physical education teacher who has worked teaching outdoor sports and activities to thousands. While living in Connecticut and again once I returned to Maine, I was a trainer of trainers for the American Red Cross Health and Safety division. I is a native of Maine who starting boating at the age of 6 months in a dory skiff while my Dad was chasing a small whale in Casco Bay. Since the age of four I have been rowing, swimming, and exploring Maine's coast and inland waterways. I follow Leave No Trace ethics as well as treating the land and water sites we visit with respect. I love exploring Maine with new friends and sharing all that I know.

"Dear Alice, Do you remember us? Three years ago, we made a wonderful trip with you on a flat water river (I forgot the name, sorry, but we saw quite a lot of white eagles). We would like to do this again with you and we would be a party of 4. Is there a chance to do this in August 2015?"

Gudrun A. Germany

"Thank you, Thank you so much for helping facilitate our wonderful family experience on beautiful Merrymeeting Bay. No one could have handled all our different levels of competance (or in-competence) and yet instill a wonderful sense of mastery and joy to all the group. Bravo. Well done"
